Hi Deano,
It is good to hear your back doing the show. Just wanted to let you know that I personally appreciate what you are doing with the show very much. I have been following your podcasts since they began and eagerly await each new show.
What ever happens do not let yourself become discouraged from disparaging remarks others might make on TMP. As you and others are fully aware the world is chock full of idiots even on TMP. Just use the ignore button on them and keep on trucking. You are doing a fine job with the show.
It is no easy task giving up your free time and effort to put together these podcasts and I just wanted to remind you that you do have a growing audience out here that support you. Your format is great, the information and insight you provide is invaluable.
I purchased the Martin Hacket Fantasy Wargaming book you recommended and have found it to be a great tool in planning out my own upcoming solo campaign.
I do not think I will ever be able to afford some other older more expensive out of print books you make reference to however any information or advice that you can make from them or explain is greatly appreciated. Your attention to detail in explaining the methodology and concepts from these books has been very helpful.
I chose to start out my own campaign using Montjoie medieval skirmish rules from Two Hour Wargames. Montjoie allows for starting with a small medieval retinue of a few figures and have that force grow over time into a much larger force. I like this concept as it allows me to gradually paint medieval 28mm figures individually and as the campaign progress a back story is developed around each miniature. In addition I scratch build terrain and scenery pieces as the campaign unfolds.
I am playing out Owain Glyndŵr’s Welsh Revolt. The revolt started out very small with a handful of combatants beginning with several small raids that grew gradually as time passed into a full blown War of Welsh Independence.
Mythic’s Role Playing rules system along the Game Master Emulator and Variations books for filling out the story line and background scenes is a great tool. By using Mythic’s ‘Fate Chart’ and my own modified versions of it and the ‘Event Meaning Subject and Action Tables’ I have been able to develop and integrate additional elements and rules mechanisms mentioned in Hackett’s book and from your podcasts into my Campaign.
Happy Holidays
